About Tony: Merchant Navy Radio and Electronics officer where he sailed around the world over a period of four years.
A Radio Design Engineer for many years where he worked on equipment running from 1 Watt to 500KW over the spectrum from LF to UHF. He is now Assistant Chief Engineer with THALES.
His first transmitter was built when he was 11years old, to a design from a very early book using a toy train transformer a car ignition coil and other salvaged/donated bits. Signals were herd by my school chum about 200m away as well as local television viewers.
A late joiner to the Amateur Radio hobby as work was suitably entertaining, but a chance invitation to NFD back in 1989 generated a rekindled interest and now enjoy chasing DX (with a new TX). But he believes it's more fun to actually be the DX in a mult-station DXpedition like this one as it throws up a multitude of operational and technical challenges.
