About Michael:
Michael is a 25-year old ham from Thuringia, Germany. He earned his radio license in 1999 at an age of 14 years. His license was at that time limited to VHF and up. In that time he spent time on amateur satellite operation. In 2000 he got clearance to operate on the six meter band, which is until today one of his favorite bands. In 2003 licensing system in Germany was changed and he was allowed to operate on HF. By about 2005 he was infected by the DX- and Contestvirus by local hams.

Nowadays he operates mostly contests like CQWW and CQWPX with a team of local Hams from a mountain called Wetzstein in southern Thuringia. For other contest, such as WAE, he joins the team of the University of Applied Science in Jena with the call DR6J. He also participated in the DA0HQ team several times. Apart from contesting he is an avid DXer and lowbander, having worked all 40 zones and 50 US-states on topband. His preferred bands are 160m and 6m, while he operates all modes, CW, SSB and digital.

In 2005 Michael started his diploma study in Physics, which he finished in 2010. He is currently working on his PhD thesis in strong-field laser physics at the University of Jena in the Quantumelectronics group and enjoys academic teaching. He is engaged to Sara.
